When I was a small boy, I loved sci fi. And, although the movies were dominated with Star Wars and suchlike, it was the plight of the Battlestar Galactica that always did it for me. And my favourite character? Of course, it was the mischievous Starbuck.
So when Dynamite Entertainment offered me the opportunity to do a kind of ‘Starbuck – Year One’, I jumped at it. Starbuck is one of the true enigmas in the show, as he doesn’t remember his childhood, and all we know about him pre- show is that he’s like a brother to Apollo and a son to Adama, and has no memory of his true family. With such an open book to fill, I had to go for it, and Battlestar Galactica: Starbuck was born in 2013, with the trade finally coming out in 2016.
And Dynamite were so impressed with it that they gave me a second bite at the pie, with a Steampunk imagining of the Battlestar Galactica series – Steampunk Battlestar Galactica: 1880 was a four part miniseries, reimagining the characters in a whole new setting that came out in 2014, with a trade in 2015.
